Norwalk man arrested in OxyContin
DARIEN - Police arrested a Norwalk man in connection with the theft of more than $50,000 worth of OxyContin and Percocet pills from Greib's Pharmacy in Darien, where he once worked.
Donald Hegermiller, 22, turned himself in Thursday after he learned of a warrant for his arrest, Capt. Fred Komm said yesterday.
More arrests were expected, Komm said.
Police began investigating April 23 after an agent for the Drug Control Division of the state Department of Consumer Protection audited the pharmacy and found that 12,000 OxyContin and Percocet pills were missing, Komm said.
OxyContin and Percocet are prescription painkillers that sometimes are sold illegally on the street. Pharmacies store the drugs in locked vaults, Komm said.
During the investigation, police found there were several unauthorized entries at the Post Road pharmacy. Hegermiller, a former pharmacy employee, has been charged with entering the store after hours, Komm said. The other charges against him include first-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit larceny, possession of narcotics with the intent to distribute and conspiracy to distribute narcotics.
A manager at the pharmacy said he could not comment because the matter was under investigation.
Hegermiller was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 8.
